Adopting a cat gives them a second chance at life. We aim to ensure all of the cats in our care are completely ready for their new home, assessing their behaviour to ensure they always find the right fit.
All adoptions are subject to a home check and agreeing to our adoption criteria. If you’re interested in adopting with us, please read our adoption criteria at the bottom of the page.
Our Simple 5-Step Adoption Guide:

- We Connect After you submit your form, a dedicated member of our team will be in touch with you promptly to discuss your application and let you know the next steps.
- The Friendly Home Check We’ll arrange a convenient time to meet you in person and see the environment where your cat will be living. This is a relaxed chat to discuss which of our wonderful cats would be the perfect fit for your lifestyle. Once a match is made, we’ll schedule a time to bring your chosen cat to you!
- Welcome Home Day! We arrive with your new family member! You’ll sign the Adoption Agreement (which protects both you and the cat), complete the adoption fee, and then we leave you and your new furbaby to start your life of cuddles and companionship.

Our Adoption Criteria:
- You must be 21 or over.
- We do not home cats on/near busy roads or near railways. (You need to be at least 200 meters away.)
- We home kittens in pairs. We only home single kittens if you already have pets. We will however home cats over 1 year old on their own.
- We do home to households with dogs but the cat has to be used to dogs and ideally the dog is already living with a cat so we can assess them.
- We do home to households with children 6 and over. We sometimes make exceptions for younger visiting children. We also only place cats that are used to children with children.
- If you want a cat who plays out you must agree/be able to keep the cat indoors for a minimum of 6 weeks (or longer until the cat is totally comfortable with you). This is so that they get to know where their new home is and will come back when you let them outside.
- We only accept applicants within a 15 mile radius of Darwen, Lancashire. This includes: Bolton, Hyndburn, Blackburn, Bury, Greater Manchester. We will sometimes consider applicants outside our homing area for harder to home cats such as elderly cats, feral cats, special needs cats or cats with health conditions.
Special Hearts: Cats Most in Need
At EBC, cats stay with us for as long as it takes. However, some of our residents have been waiting for over a year. These cats are often:
- Bonded Pairs who need to stay together.
- Older Cats looking for a quiet retirement.
- Shy Souls who simply need a little extra time to decompress.
Please consider opening your home to one of these “long-stayers” in Lancashire. They often become the most loyal and rewarding companions.
