Give a cat a second chance at life.
Adopting a cat gives them a second chance at life. We aim to ensure all of the cats in our care are completely ready for their new home, assessing their behaviour to ensure they always find the right fit.
All adoptions are subject to a home check and agreeing to our adoption criteria.

Our simple 5-step adoption guide
1
Apply for adoption
Ready to take the plunge?
Filling out our application form is the official first step toward welcoming a cat into your life.
2
We connect
After you submit your form, a dedicated member of our team will be in touch promptly to discuss your application and let you know the next steps.
3
The friendly home check
We’ll arrange a convenient time to meet you and see where your cat will live – a relaxed chat about which of our cats would be the perfect fit for your lifestyle.
4
Welcome home day!
Once a match is made, we bring your new family member to you. You’ll sign the Adoption Agreement (which protects both you and the cat), complete the adoption fee, and then we leave you to start your life of cuddles and companionship.
5
Ongoing support
Our relationship doesn’t end at your door. We stay in contact for a few weeks to see how you’re both settling in, we may ask for updates and photos to share on our Facebook page. Once everyone is comfortable we officially transfer the microchip into your name.

Our adoption criteria
Please read these before applying – they help us make sure every cat goes to a safe, happy, forever home.
- Age: you must be 21 or over.
- Roads & railways: we do not home cats on or near busy roads or near railways (you need to be at least 200 metres away).
- Kittens: we home kittens in pairs. We only home single kittens if you already have pets. We will however home cats over 1 year old on their own.
- Dogs: we do home to households with dogs, but the cat has to be used to dogs and ideally the dog is already living with a cat so we can assess them.
- Children: we home to households with children aged 6 and over, and sometimes make exceptions for younger visiting children. We only place cats that are used to children with children.
- Outdoor cats: if you want a cat who plays out, you must agree to keep them indoors for a minimum of 6 weeks (or longer, until they’re totally comfortable with you) so they learn where home is.
- Where you live: we only accept applicants within a 15 mile radius of Darwen, Lancashire, including Bolton, Hyndburn, Blackburn, Bury and Greater Manchester. We sometimes consider applicants further away for harder-to-home cats, such as elderly, feral or special needs cats, or cats with health conditions.

Cats most in need
At EBC, cats stay with us for as long as it takes. However, some of our residents have been waiting for over a year. These cats are often:
Bonded pairs
Who need to stay together.
Older cats
Looking for a quiet retirement.
Shy souls
Who simply need a little extra time to decompress.
Please consider opening your home to one of these “long-stayers” in Lancashire. They often become the most loyal and rewarding companions.
